CLEVELAND — A free healthcare event is underway at the W.O. Walker Building in Cleveland.
The MedWorks event is providing hundreds of uninsured with free medical, vision and dental exams.
People started lining up outside the Walker building at 5:30 a.m. even though the doors didn’t open until 7. Organizers say they have been dealing with a few kinks here and there but for the most part things are running smoothly.
So many people have shown up today, they have created make shift exam rooms, wherever they can find space.
Volunteers say they are seeing patients who haven’t been a doctor in years. Some have health conditions that need immediate attention, and those patients are being transported immediately to a local hospital.
Patients say things appear to be running smoothly and they are impressed by how quickly things are moving.
If you didn’t get an appointment to this MedWorks event, organizers are planning to hold more. They hope to hold an event quarterly.
Senior Health Correspondent Monica Robins will have a full report of day one at MedWorks tonight on Channel 3 News at 6.
